About the Event

Are you newly postpartum or in late pregnancy and planning for your postpartum time? We would love to have you join us for a 3 week series of classes, lovingly termed Postpartum BodyWise. We will be sharing all of the wisdom about postpartum bodies that we have gained in our women’s health physical therapy practice.  After reflecting on the recurring themes that come up with our private clients, we feel that working through these themes in a group setting would be extremely beneficial.

This class will be perfect for new mothers that are curious about how to best prepare their body to return to life, work, sex, and maybe even fitness, after baby.

There will be opportunities for abbreviated individual assessments and you will be able to benefit from group conversations and recommendations. The woman next to you may ask a question you’ve never thought of but want to know the answer to as well.

Week 1

-Conversation about the changes to the abdominal wall that occur through pregnancy and birth, including diastasis rectus abdominis, cesarean scars, and general stretch

-Individualized assessment of the abdominal wall

-Group discussion of findings and recommendations for practice at home

-Group Q and A

Week 2

-Conversation about the changes to the pelvic floor and connective tissue throughout pregnancy and birth

- Individualized pelvic floor muscle assessments in a private room (this can be internal vaginal or external depending on your preferences)

-Group discussion of findings and recommendations for home practices

-Group Q and A

Week 3

Conversation about common postpartum issues related to poop, pee, sex, and exercise

-Group discussion and recommendations for practice at home

- Group Q and A

FAQ (well questions we anticipate since June will be our first series)

Can I bring my baby?

  • You are more than welcome to bring your baby if you would like, or come solo. Whatever makes you most comfortable.

Do I have to share everything with the group?

  • Absolutely not, buuuut the more you share the more you will learn about what is bothering you. Also, when sharing group recommendations, we will use discretion.

Are there options for make up dates?

  • Unfortunately, no. If you are not able to make all 3 scheduled dates then you can still sign up for the group class, but missed classes can not be made up. In this case you may prefer to sign up for the private program.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

  • No, that is not necessary for this 3 week program.

What if my baby cries, or I have to feed my baby, or take care of a blow out?

  • Not to worry, we are planning for all of that. However, if you anticipate your child will be screaming through the whole class then consider the private option, out of respect for the other participants.

I see this group class is for those who are 4-16 weeks postpartum. I am 20 weeks postpartum, can I sign up?

  • Yes you can but please know that the discussions will be focused on early postpartum topics. That said, we don't all follow the same healing time frames, so the early topics may be very relevant to some further into their postpartum time. There will be a firm cut off at 6 months postpartum. If you are 6 months or more postpartum we would love to see you in our private program.
